Withania somnifera is an erect subshrub in the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and is native to the northwestern states of India. Ashwagandha is one of the most revered plants in traditional Ayurvedic medicine and is used to treat a plethora of conditions.

The American Botanical Council (ABC) is passionate about helping people live healthier lives through the responsible use of herbs and medicinal plants.
