Funding win for Pukka Herbs

Bristol-based organic tea, skincare and healthcare provider Pukka Herbs is to be awarded up to £6m in lending after winning a regional award.

The company has been named as a winner of HSBC's South West and Wales Regional Global Connections initiative to find the country's most innovative businesses along with The Bremont Watch Company.

It will be awarded up to £6m in lending plus a financial reward of up to £120,000 – a total of 2 per cent of its borrowing paid back.

Pukka Herbs, which creates organic herbal teas, skincare and healthcare, was founded by Sebastian Pole and Tim Westwell.

Last year the business expanded into Germany and also experienced significant growth in North America and Australia. It has new product development plans in place and there is also a new market focus on China and India.

Tim Westwell, managing director at Pukka Herbs, said: "We're a self-funded business and a prize like this allows us to do some of the things we really want to, like developing new products and moving into new markets, a lot sooner."

Gary Burton, HSBC's South West and Wales regional commercial director, added: "Bremont and Pukka Herbs were chosen for their conviction in what they are doing, their innovation and the clarity of vision they have for taking their businesses forward."

The two regional winners will now go on to compete against eight other companies from around the UK for a financial reward of up to £240,000.
