The HerbMedPro Pay-per-Day
service is up and running on the American Botanical Council Web site. This
feature allows temporary access to this powerful database to journalists,
researchers, healthcare professionals, consumers and others who are seeking
scientific and clinical information on a specific herb and/or condition.
HerbMedPro
(HMP) is an interactive herbal database that provides hyperlinked access to the
publicly-available publication abstracts of scientific and clinical papers
containing data underlying the use of herbs, phytomedicines and related
plant-derived ingredients for health purposes. It is an impartial,
evidence-based information resource, currently covering 220 herbs. HMP is
available to ABC members at the Academic level or above and to current HMP database
licensees.
HerbMedPro
Pay-per-Day provides immediate 48-hour access to the entire database, advanced
searching, and dynamic updates for just $9.95. Interested parties can go to https://secure2.convio.net/abc/site/Donation2?df_id=1260&1260.donation=form1
to sign up.
The database is continually being updated,
but it is quite an intensive process. However, a unique and powerful Dynamic
Updates feature is provided wherein search terms for a number of categories of
research will result in all the new publications for any specific herb from the
National Library of Medicine’s PubMed database. Those visiting the database may
use this feature by scrolling down to Dynamic
Updates, clicking on Live PubMed
Searches, and scrolling to whichever category is needed. This will deliver
the most recent research data.
Relevant key words may be
entered into the advanced search engine for further information on specific
herbs, herb actions or health indications.
HerbMed was founded in 1998
by Jacqueline C. Wootton, MEd, the president and executive director of the
Alternative Medicine Foundation and HerbMed editorial director. In February of
2008, ABC acquired the rights to the database and controls the administrative,
financing and marketing responsibilities. Ms. Wootton will continue to develop
the information on the database with support from ABC.1
