Tiny in size, the sesame seed hides a powerhouse of nutrients that belies its humble stature. In addition to having an almost-complete protein profile, the seed, which is one of the oldest cultivated seeds in the world, contains high amounts of calcium and other minerals. The fragrant oil pressed from the seed has been used in medicine, cuisine, and perfumery since the time of the ancient Egyptians, all of which take advantage of its unique properties.
