IADSA Endorses Botanical Adulterants Program

The International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) has publicly endorsed the Botanical Adulterants Program (BAP). IADSA was formed in 1998 and represents 49 trade associations. In his letter, Executive Director Simon Pettman stated that “IADSA is constantly seeking ways in which to improve standards within the global industry and demonstrate that dietary supplements are a category of products that deserve the trust of decision-makers in government. We consider that your program will help us move forward on both these objectives and in time will provide real consumer benefits.”

The support by IADSA is another milestone in the history of the BAP. Adulteration of botanical ingredients is a global issue, therefore the endorsement of IADSA with its worldwide connections will be beneficial in many ways; for example, such support will create better access to information on adulteration and how it is perceived by regulatory agencies through IADSA, and will increase the awareness of the problems associated with adulteration and the unique educational work of the BAP in the many countries that make up the IADSA membership.
