Psychedelic
Healing: The Promise of Entheogens for Psychotherapy and Spiritual Development was
written by Neal M. Goldsmith, PhD, and published in 2011 by Healing Arts Press.
256 pages; paperback. $16.95.
Driven by the recent resurgence of psychedelics research at prominent
universities nationwide, Neal M. Goldsmith, PhD, examines various aspects of these
illicit substances in his latest book, Psychedelic
Healing. Dr. Goldsmith covers topics ranging from the development of a
clinical model for using psychedelics to the importance of changing the current
narcotic drug laws. The seriousness of the subject, however, is balanced by the
author’s personal connection to psychedelics. “But first, let us begin by
exploring how a middle-aged, middle-class psychologist came to be taking a
psychedelic drug, alone in his apartment, surrounded by Post-it Notes,” Dr. Goldsmith
writes in the book’s introduction. Throughout the book, Dr. Goldsmith stresses the importance
of the responsible use of what he calls “the most powerful psychiatric medicine…
known to humanity.” He recommends that readers take such substances only under
the direction of a supervised medical study. An excerpt of Psychedelic
Healing is available for HerbalEGram readers. It contains the book’s title
page, table of contents, and Chapter 4, “The Ten Lessons of Psychedelic
Therapy, Rediscovered,” which walks readers through a therapeutic acid trip
from start to finish. The book can be purchased from the publisher’s website.
