Mitragyna speciosa is in the coffee family (Rubiaceae) and is native to Southeast Asia. It is an evergreen or deciduous tree, depending on the climate, and grows 12-30 feet tall. Kratom leaves are chewed traditionally to withstand exhaustion, as a mood enhancer, painkiller, and antidiarrheal.
