HerbDay Highlights
The annual plant sale included a wide variety of medicinal plants. Visitors lined up starting early Saturday morning and kept ABC's staff busy throughout the day. |
The first herb walk of the day was given by Nicole Telkes, registered herbalist and founder of the Wildflower School of Botanical Medicine. Telkes focuses on bioregional herbalism and taught the crowd about an array of herbs, including the North American native yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria, not shown), a caffeine-containing tree. |
Keynote speaker Dr. Tieraona Low Dog graced HerbDay visitors with her transformational talk on 'A Physician's Top Ten: Herbs for Common Ailments,' including several adaptogenic herbs such as ashwagandha and rhodiola. |
Ellen Zimmermann of EZ Herbs hosted the second herb walk, starting out with one of her favorite herbs for menopause and reproductive health, chasteberry (Vitex agnus-castus). |
ABC's Founder and Executive Director Mark Blumenthal closed out the day with his witty presentation "Humorous Health: Conventional & Alternative Medicine, Pharmaceutical Drugs, Diet, and Lifestyle as Seen through Cartoons." |
