Peterson Field Guide
This week's featured book is Peterson Field Guide to Medicinal Plants and Herbs of Eastern and Central North America, 3rd ed. written by Steven Foster and James A. Duke, PhD, published in 2014.

Organized by flower type within color section and with more than 700 color photos, this long-awaited third edition comprises more than 530 of the most significant medicinal plants in the eastern and central United States and Canada, including both native and non-indigenous species.

Roger Tory Peterson (1908-1996), for whom the series of books is named, invented the 20th century concept of field guides, introducing generations of Americans to the flora, fauna, and natural features of North America. Peterson Field Guides have now been published for 80 years.

This edition represents a complete overhaul compared to the previous editions from 1990 and 2000, to include a majority of new images by Foster, a highly regarded botanical photographer, and 60 new plant species. Each entry includes the plant's Latin name, habitat, and information on which plant parts are used medicinally and how, including simplified warnings. ABC Board of Trustees Member Steven Foster and Board Member Emeritus Jim Duke, PhD, have pooled more than 100 years of combined experience to provide the premier field guide for the medicinal plant seeker in this area of North America. Softcover, 456 pages.

Remember that ABC members get 10% off the retail price when logged in to the
