Data from a new study published in the journal Nutrients show that supplementation with beetroot juice was able to significantly increase blood plasma nitrate levels, which in turn can augment levels of cardioprotective nitric oxide.

A Turkish researcher is proposing that a flowering plant found growing on Mount Hasan in Turkey is the prized silphion plant that was used extensively in the ancient Mediterranean cultures and was believed to have gone extinct close to 2,000 years ago.

Cacao Was Not Food Exclusive to Ancient Maya Elite, New Study Says. Sci-news.com. September 30, 2022. New archaeological evidence from a wide cross-section of Maya social classes suggests that cacao, once thought to be a beverage reserved for the Mesoamerican elite, was found to be prevalent throughout the civilization and seemingly accessible to anyone.

The date palm is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees and has a long history of use as a food and medicine in northern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The fruit is high in fiber, polyphenolic compounds, and immune-supporting beta-glucans. However, many parts of the date palm, including the leaf, pit, and pollen, have been investigated for their efficacy against conditions such as diabetes, tumor growth, and infertility.
