August 20, 2012 - December 7, 2012, 4:35 p.m. - 7:35 p.m.: Dietary Supplement Laws & Regulations. University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA. Dietary supplements are playing an ever-increasing and influential role in human nutrition. This weekly course provides students with a thorough understanding of the laws and regulations that govern the use, manufacturing, and marketing of dietary supplements in the USA. Students will become familiar with the political process and historical setting by which dietary supplement laws and regulations have come into being. Students will also become familiar with the government agencies involved with the implementation and oversight of such laws and regulations, as well as the science and research related to dietary supplements. In addition, students will learn about the various trade and watchdog organizations that are involved with the manufacturing, use, and governance of dietary supplements.
Industry enrollment is welcome, and the course can be taken for continuing education credit without being a traditionally enrolled student.
