July 29-31, 2011: 20-hour Community Medic and Herbal Training. East Meredith, NY, USA. This is a hands-on, experiential training for people who want to go beyond basic first aid skills. It includes assessment, first aid/herbal first aid, preparation (mental, physical, and what to carry), practice scenarios, and prevention. The workshop is designed to prepare attendees for chaotic situations, such as disasters or emergencies. The class is Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We request a sliding-scale donation of $50-80. Please contact us if money is a problem. Please come with a bagged lunch for your lunch. The Serpentine Project is an educational endeavor to protect and cultivate medicinal plants and traditional approaches to healing. This workshop is informed by our work in natural and political disasters, from the coal fields of West Virginia to the earthquake in Haiti. We are particularly interested in supporting those who are threatened by fracture drilling in the Marcellus Shale region. Instructors are Leah Wolfe, MPH, herbalist, who is a certified wilderness first responder and Charles Schiavone, EMT and firefighter.
