As part of the Sustainable Herbs Program's outreach for the SHP Sustainability and Regenerative Practices Toolkit, we are hosting a series of conversations on key issues around sustainability and the botanical industry with leaders in the botanical community. We are happy to announce the second webinar in this series: The Business Case for Sustainability. Botanical ingredients suppliers are often the main connection between product brands and producers of raw materials. These companies have direct information on how making investments in sustainability and regenerative practices impact quality, as elaborated in the SHP Sustainable & Regenerative Practices Toolkit. In this webinar, SHP Director Ann Armbrecht will speak with Brian Zapp, Creative Director at Applied Food Sciences, and Andrea Zangara, Scientific Marketing Manager at Euromed, two companies that are Inaugural Underwriters of SHP, about why investing in sustainability is essential to sourcing high quality botanicals.
About the speakers Brian Zapp, Creative Director at Applied Food Sciences By the age of twelve, Brian Zapp had visited nearly every continent exploring botanical ingredients with his mother, CEO of a successful ingredient company. The love of business around functional extracts from global sourcing to working with exciting companies had grown. Today, Zapp is a creative director and manages the marketing division at Applied Food Sciences, where he continues to work with his mother, Loretta Zapp (CEO), and brother, Jackson Zapp (VP of Innovation). One unique thing about Brian was his success in the sport of rugby, where between 2008-2016, Brian was an international rugby referee. He still works closely with the rugby community while raising his family near Boulder, Colorado. Andrea Zangara, Scientific Marketing Manager at Euromed Andrea Zangara graduated in Clinical Psychology (Padua University, Italy), trained in psychopharmacology (UCL, London) and has been involved in R&D of nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products for more than 15 years in several countries and with executive roles. Zangara's educational background includes extensive training in psychopharmacology ( at University College London) and in phytotherapy (Master Degree at University of Barcelona), post grad trainings in naturopathy (CNM) and regulatory (BRAMA), in addition to several courses on clinical trials and nutrition. He worked in the development and launch of several products and contributed to the success and internationalization of those companies. Zangara is currently adjunct research fellow at the Centre for Human Psychopharmacology, Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia, and collaborate with expert groups at the Italian Society for Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences (integrative Medicines Group) and at the International Life Sciences Institute (Plant-based ingredients and their cognitive benefits).
